raging harmonies against the empire

Kate Boverman & Ethan Miller

We see our music as a vehicle for education and inspiration, a spark thrown into the fuel of our collective yearnings for more just, joyful and dignified worlds. Inspired by a long tradition of political singing and songwriting, our songs speak from an ongoing commitment to struggles for social, ecological and economic justice.

We live in Maine, at the JED Collective. Well, this is only partly true, since Kate spends lots of time in Oregon on her family farm and Ethan spends lots of time in Amherst, MA as a grad student studying how to overthrow capitalism.

Kate also organizes with the Northeast Radical Healthcare Network and Ethan works with the Grassroots Economic Organizing collective and the U.S. Solidarity Economy Network. Both of us are passionate about working on the land as well, Kate with medicinal herbs and Ethan with heirloom fruit varieties.

Amidst all of these commitments, we don't play music in public very often, and when we do, it's mostly in small, intimate settings. Sometimes we also play as a trio called Northern Spy with our friend Seth Yentes on cello.

We're excited and honored to be a part of Riotfolk, this collective of inspiring radical musicians. This collective website allows us to share our music even if we can't be out on the road playing it for folks all over. We hope that you find some of these songs useful in your good work, whatever it may be.

We like to hear from folks by email, but we also can't always respond quickly. If you send a message and we don't write back, it's not because we weren't excited to hear from you, just busy with the wildness of life. If you really need to get in touch, don't hesitate to email twice!

Keep loving and keep fighting!
